Today we decided to talk about what Anglo Couture is. We have so many brides come in and say "Wow! This was totally a different experience! I didn't realize that this is not like all the other Bridal Boutiques!"

Anglo Couture is a Bridal Boutique that takes finding the ideal gown to a new level. With each appointment, we take time to understand what you're looking for, the theme of your wedding, and ideas that you have for your gown. Then each bride tries on sample gowns that match the ideas so we can start our MAGIC!

As you try on gowns, we begin to customize the gown to fit your desires.

We show you how we make your vision into reality. You work with our designer, Vicky Anglo, to see the various possibilities of adding lace, beadwork as well as types and colors of fabric. You have the option to have detachable straps, sweet heart bodice and so on. The possibilities are endless with Anglo Couture. We have the ability to make the exact dress that you want because at Anglo Couture we create our own gowns.

Once we finish designing the dream gown, we start to making the gown from scratch. Each Anglo Couture gown is made with the finest fabric and in house with your measurements. Our gowns are lined with the same silk material as we believe that our brides should feel as good as they look in their Anglo Couture gown. You will have a flawless fit that compliments your body. Once the gown is finished, we add the finishing touches to help complete the look. We create our veils and garters as well as have a wide variety in jaw dropping accessories, such as gorgeous earrings, stunning bracelets, the perfect clutch.

We also redesign your mother's wedding gown, create ravishing Bridesmaids gowns, lovely flower girl gowns, Mother of the Bride's Gowns plus Sweet Sixteen Gowns.

1920's

The 1920's Women could now vote!! They celebrated by cutting their hair into short flirty bobs as well as wearing shorter and looser gowns in addition to ridding themselves of restrictive corsets. At this time Jeanne Lanvin and Coco Chanel rose to the top and introduced knee length wedding gowns. They paired the traditional bridal fabrics with full veils.

Here on the left is a short wedding gown with a long veil made popular by Coco Chanel which started the flapper brides!

If you would like to get your own Short but Modern Wedding Gown, Anglo Couture has this beautiful short length wedding gown called Artemis. Artemis Wedding Gown is made with a Chiffon and a light silk liner that makes the gown soft on the skin and easy to move in. Some brides loves this gown so much that they make it their Rehearsal Dinner Gown.

Prim & Proper 1900's

Most woman in the 1900's loved the high necklines, long sleeves and ethereal floor-length veils. For the first time, clothing manufacturers produced elaborate, ready-made wedding gowns for a growing and social conscious middle class.

In 1905, Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt were married March 17, 1905. Her Victorian Style reflected the modesty of the times: stiff, heavy satin and shirred tulle, with a high neck, long sleeves, and a cinched waist.

Anglo Couture has taken the high neck line but created a more romantic modern gown. Here is Anglo Couture's Zoe Gown. This gown is made out of Chiffon with a light silk liner that makes it soft on the skin and easy to move in.

This week we are sending a special Thank You to Simply Divine Events. Lori Randall did such a great job by creating a warm holiday and fall feel. The window display also includes Anglo Couture's wedding gowns, Geniveive and Anna.

1800's The first white Bridal Gown

The 1800's changed the way we look at Wedding Gowns today.

The first half of the nineteenth century, royal brides continued to use luxurious fabrics in tones of silver and red. The commoners would follow in their footsteps by wearing other various colors and floral patterns.

In 1840, Queen Victoria of England was the first to wear an all-white bridal ensemble. She wore a rich white satin gown adorned with orange blossoms and an eighteen foot train with veil of Honiton lace. Queen Victoria wore a matching wreath on her head that incorporated orange blossoms with entwined diamonds.

At Anglo Couture, we have this beautiful wedding gown made with the finest lace. This gown is Anglo Couture's Pavlina Gown. The Pavilna gown is made with Alencon Lace and has a sweet heart neckline embellished with a Silk Dutchess belt and brooch.

In the 1500s to 1600s Europe started to venture to find America and Royalty started the trends of wedding gowns.

In 1944, we have Anne of Brittany married Louis XII of France and is the first official documented white-wearing bride. Four years later Margaret Tudor, the daughter of Henry VII, had a white damask gown edged with crimson. The crimson was added to the gown to show off the color of royalty. Later on in 1612, Princess Elizabeth was married in a silver dress embroidered with pearls, real silver, and precious stones.

Here we have Marie Adélaïde of Savory, Duchess of Burgundy in (1685-1712), ca 1710 where the soon to be bride wears a silver with a lace going throughout the bodice and gown.

History of Wedding Gowns

Have you ever wondered why we have certain traditions and where they came from? We decided to do some research on how wedding gowns have looked throughout our history.

Here is a photo by Theophile Robaudi called THE YOUNG BRIDE.

Here we see the classical pleated white robe with strings of pearls and a soft yellow veil. Pearls are the oldest known gem and a symbol of purity and perfection.

Ancient Times:

In Greece, they believed that the color white meant it was a time of celebration. So they wore white on their wedding day as an emblem of joy.

In Roman they would pay tribute to Hymen, the god of fertility and marriage, by wearing the color she most favored, white. The Brides' robe would normally be softly pleated white.

Both the Greeks and the Romans would wear flame-colored veils as a sign of modesty.

In Egypt, brides would drape layers of pleated white linen.

Saturday, October 1, 2011 Hands Across the Bay is presenting this year’s Tampa Bay’s Dancing with the Stars, an interactive Ballroom Dance Competition. This charity event raises money for various children’s charities for the Tampa Bay Area. This year’s proceeds from the event will go directly so support the emission of Kids Charity of Tampa Bay, Pepin Academies and Hands Across the Bay.

AFR Event

On August 18th, The Anglo Couture team closed the doors to our showroom on Central Ave. in St. Petersburg and headed towards Orlando! We were going towards the History Center for a networking event sponsored by the AFR Event Furnishing Company at the Orange County Regional History Center Venue. It was the first time a couple of our team members, Ashley and Kellie, met and it was great! On our way, our new team bonded together and chatted about new ideas for our future inspirations for Anglo Couture.

When we arrived to the event it was nothing short of amazing. The History Center was completely decorated inside and out with awesome lighting, floral arrangements and jamming dance floors. The event was held top to bottom of the building, a total of three floors with extravagant decorations, and plenty of beautiful catering. We were so excited to venture and mingle, getting to know and see our friends within the industry! The second floor was decked out in an 80’s theme. Our favorite was the John Lennon exhibit. John Lennon's statue talked and sung…and mimicked things that people would say…he looked like a statue but was he really..? The 80’s floor was a giant boom box. There was an awesome block wall light in every color imaginable, and a chalk bar where we wrote: VICKY WAS HERE!

Then we traveled to the third floor where we hit the roaring 20’s! The Anglo Team had a ton of fun throughout this level. There were gambling tables, women dressed as flappers and gangsters, plus a photobooth with none other than outstanding fun 20’s costumes! Of course the Anglo girls had to check this out! We had quite the laughter once we entered the booth! I think we had a total of 4 print strips with some preeettyyyy funny photos.

All and All, we mingled and visited with some new and old friends with our colleagues who do great work within the Bridal Industry! What an experience!

Style Your Wedding

For the average woman, she has mentally planned her wedding since childhood. While the boys were running around the neighborhood with light sabers, we were fashioning veils out of anything we could find, from pillow cases to our mothers slips. Cutting the forbidden flowers from the garden for our bouquet for the many times we were to be married. I personally was married 16 times by the time I was eleven years old. I was married to my friends, my pets and occasionally a brother of a friend (if we could convince or bribe him to play the groom that day).

Fast forward to when reality has set in, the dream is always in the back of our minds. Continuing to plan, dream and yes let’s admit it, watching more than our share of reality shows based on romance, love and the “happily ever after”.

Then one day it happens. The day you dreamt of has finally arrived. It will be your day, your wedding. And this time you will NOT be wearing a pillow case as your veil. If you thought that finding the “one” was the hard part now you must begin to piece together the biggest day of your life with all of the visions you have carried since childhood. Plus, do it all while pleasing the future in-laws as well as your own family.

As a fashion and wedding stylist, I have had the pleasure to work with many brides. Everything from the backyard wedding to destination weddings. Even though it may seem daunting, I am here to help. Throughout the years she also enjoyed marketing and advertising, thus attended Florida International University to pursue her degree in marketing. Kellie started her marketing career within the distribution industry where she took pleasure in the fast paced environment where creative marketing is fashioned, stakeholders are consulted, and challenges plus obstacles are conquered through resourceful problem-solving. After gaining experience in the marketing industry, her ambition to join a company that would enable her to combine her passion for fashion and marketing led her to the Anglo Couture team. Bustle Styles at Anglo Couture

The bustle dates back all the way to the 1800’s. Stylish women during those times would wear frames under their dress to support their extremely full skirts. Now day’s bustles are still very popular in the bridal industry. They provide brides an easy way for a train to be picked up, leaving the bride stress free about tripping over her gown. The extra fabric that looks gorgeous while walking down the aisle can later become hazardous while dancing or walking about the reception hall. Bustles can be added to any wedding gown with a long train. They come in a variety of options; European, French-Victorian or an Austrian bustle. Our favorite method of a bustle is the French. This style is extremely beautiful with any wedding dress and perfect for a decorative and detailed gown. The French bustle is also typically more secure than the European because it is tucked underneath the skirt making a clean sweep and not covering any of the details from the waist down, whereas the European bustle is picked up along the outside of your gown. Bustles are a great convenience for a bride and it is ultimately her decision. They all look beautiful it’s just a matter of personal preference to your specific gown. Any bustle can be done here at Anglo Couture in a variety of ways.
